(sweet Anthropologie tea cups)

I love these tea cups. If I were decorating my house (which I am not, because why decorate when you desperately need to remodel) I would get enough to spell something and hang them under my cupboards with cute little tea cup hooks. I would use them to drink licorice tea.

I do think that they are so cute that whatever you spell would have to be a little snarky to dilute the cuteness. What do you think? What would you spell?

Hush.

Hot.

Groovy or Peachy.

Rad.

I love to say rad, and I love it even more when I say it and Eddie looks at me like I'm ridiculous. It's funny.

Gotta go have some licorice tea now, in my ugly mug.

To measure progress

I ran 6 miles today.

Well, ran 2.8 then walked .2.

Then ran 2.6, walked .1, ran.1, and walked .2.

I shouldn't have ever stopped at 2.6 because it made my legs feel like cement. It would have been much easier to just keep going. I felt great until 4 and then my left adductor (brevis?- very upper inside thigh) was really unhappy with me. Also at the end I felt like my ankles were asleep at my Achilles which has never happened to me before. My hips have been very rotated lately so I'm blaming it on that.

I can't believe that I did it, this was my first "long" run. I'm quite positive that i have never run that far in my life. I'm even more confident now about the half marathon I'll be running in May (although I might have said June before- it's in MAY).

Oh, by the way it took me 80 minutes which is about as slow as I can imagine. I'm just fine with that.

I really wanted to do it on the greenbelt, but the weather wasn't great and neither were my kids today, so I had to go with a treadmill at the gym.

I have to admit that I did cry. But only because CNN kept show scenes from the earthquake that I just can't handle.

Can I pretty please have a little Haitian boy?

Sewing that doesn't make me swear

Eddie is a health coach for Take Shape for Life. Pretty much it's like Mary Kay but with Medifast food instead of make up. (I would not say that if I thought he would read this, but he doesn't).
Okay, it's better than Mary Kay. But, you see what I mean. He signs up doctors and people to help others lose weight. He loves it. The income from TSFL saved our Chiropractic office. Really. So, I love it too.
Eddie wants to be "presidential" this year which is probably like getting a pink Cadillac. Except, TSFL is such a new business that there are only like 10 Presidentials in the whole country.
When he told me he was going to do it, I told him that I would make a quilt for him to give to his mentor and his wife (Dan and Mary Bell). They are cute and from Hotlanta. So, we extra like them.
I told him that he really better make it to presidential now, because this will take a long time and I don't want it to sit in a closet for a year. I think it just might work.
I stared the quilt with these blocks.
these are tsfl colors
When I showed Eddie I could tell he didn't like it. I said, maybe you aren't imagining that other blocks will have navy in the middle or outside row. Nope. He didn't like the randomness of the colors.
So, I switched to these. I like them much better too. I'm glad he helped me change it.
good pics are impossible when Leah is around as she screams for the camera

And, they are much faster to make. TSFL convention is in July in Dallas. I hope the Bells get this quilt.
By the way, my opinion of swear words are things such as "stupid, lame, and hate". Just to be clear should my posterity ever find these writings.

Braggin 'bout girls

I started unloading the dishwasher and got sidetracked.
When I came back to it a few minutes later I found this:

She's so stinkin cute, dontcha think? She unloaded the top and stacked up all the bowls and cups herself.
Oh, come on she is cute.
So is Loo-Loo. She's all dressed up cowgirl style for a Daddy Daughter Date. She was quite concerned that Dad didn't have boots. I think my soccer boy just couldn't stand the thought because he could have borrowed them from the same person we got these from.
And this, ta-da, is a rooster she (Eliz) made from a paper quilling set Grammie gave her for Christmas. It's the coolest craft kit I've ever seen.
I didn't help at ALL with this by the way, she just brought it up to me after working on it in her room and said "look at how my rooster turned out!" I freaked out at the coolness of it. She was quite pleased.

Obsession

When Carolyn was about 5 I wanted to buy her a new Sunday dress. We went shopping for a whole DAY. I hate shopping. We didn't find a dress. They all had glitter, or were sleeveless, or spaghetti strapped or mini skirted, or were advertising something of that year which must have been Dragon Tales or maybe Dora (yes, on DRESSES). They were hideous.

The very next day in church we had stake conference and in our stake president's talk he spoke about shopping with his teenage daughter for a modest prom dress. They spent TWO unsuccessful days. He said "mothers, learn to sew! That's the only conclusion I can come up with." I loved his talk and at the time had made a few dresses for Carolyn. Some wearable, and some not. I made a goal to make two dresses per year at Christmas and Easter and I figured by the time she needed a prom dress I would be a pro.

Did I do it?

No.

I still make unwearable things.

Sometimes, I think well, no worries there are now companies that make modest prom dresses. But, they are all the same! Pretty much your choice is color.

My brain keeps fashioning prom dresses. Made from prints. Because aren't they ALL solid now? Boring. I told Eddie that I wanted to be able to make prom dresses, really fantastic ones that you can't buy in stores. He said "Oh." that was it.

Really, I do.

Although, I feel like that statement is just as difficult to achieve as a 300 person saying he's going to run a marathon. It can happen, just takes time right?

And......this sounds like another topic but isn't.

Our garage has an attic space for storage. Since we moved in it has been filled with the previous owners junk. Mostly totes and totes of Christmas crap. But, this fall Eddie pulled one out that had this in it.

Look at the white one with red dots and a v in the back. I would go to prom all over again just to wear that dress. Ok, maybe not but it's great right?
So, I started training for my marathon and now I have shin splints so to speak because I can not for the life of me put in an invisible zipper. See how the side of this skirt is wonky? That's my bad zipper job.

I really think my problem might be that I always go for difficult patterns. I'm aiming for 10 miles at once when I need to start with 2.

But, aren't the pleats in the back cute. Shoot.
By the way I am doing a half marathon in June. It will be easier than sewing a prom dress.
I think.

Apple Butter Bars

If you are thinking that the apple butter I gave you for Christmas is not a very good gift, that is only because maybe you do not have this recipe.

You're welcome.

If you didn't get some of my apple butter, well then come and get it. You can look at my new pretty light fixture in the foyer that replaced 1982 Chandelier.
The handyman who installed it was really hot.
